You know there are certain books you read that just grip you in and you’re forever attached to that story. Well this is THAT book for me. I don’t know why. But since reading the first part I have been a devotee of this series. I have read some fantastic books this year, with original storylines, gripping writing but nothing’s been able to beat this story. It’s just one of ‘those’ for me. I hope it becomes ‘that’ for you too. With that being said I cannot believe it’s already over. I would be perfectly happy with continuous reading of this book possibly forever.
With that being said, this book was a little different to the first. For one; we get to take a peek inside Naz’ head, see his demons. He’s a man with darkness lurking inside and it’s pretty much impossible for it to stay hidden. He’s not a good man. No. But he would do anything to protect the goodness that resides in Karissa. It’s not the kind of story where a man changes his ways for a woman in the span of a day, which is what got me to enjoy it in the first place. There are secrets (which I shall not reveal in case you haven’t yet read the first instalment) which make it harder for them to have any more than a hate relationship but you can’t help who you fall for, especially when you have no idea of the danger that resides within them. I was given a chance to really collect some answers to questions which I was left with since reading the previous part. I always wondered about his true nature, what he really wishes and feels, did he pursue Karissa for his own selfish motives, or was it true liking? This book reveals it all!
So the main highlight over all was Naz for me. It’s interesting to see how a certain individual regarded as being ‘evil’ by society tries to find a way to be someone better. The thing that he chased all his life, when he can’t chase it anymore, it becomes difficult for him to understand what he’s supposed to do with his life now. I enjoyed discovering him as a person, seeing his demons and seeing that struggle within himself to find some sort of balance. Previously, we witnessed Karissa’s development and how a girl who’s grown up believing in the goodness of everything but how it all changed for her when she was finally face to face with something she should have stayed away from. For me, the characters were everything that made this story fascinating.
We’re a disaster. A certifiable catastrophe, and there’s nothing beautiful about the way we’re going. She’s trying to be unbreakable but I’m unshakeable. She’s going crazy, and I’m already goddamn insane.
I honestly, don’t have many words to even describe how much I loved this whole story. This author is brilliant. I do wish there was more but for now I’ll reside happily with the knowledge that I can come back to this series and read it whenever I want, just to have the chance to experience Naz and Karissa’s story once more. This is the perfect suspense novel, if you’re into reading mob stories and all!
We do what we have to do, take what we have to take, and sometimes we hurt people we swear we won’t hurt, but we do, because life makes us. It’s a dog eat dog world.
