I am honestly feeling at a loss for words but I will try my very best to put my thoughts in to words… to sum it up simply: I highly, incredibly, cherished and loved this book. J.M Darhower is honestly one of my favourite authors going because every book of hers that I have read went straight to my favourites pile. And the kinda favourite that stays with you forever and you’re unable to compare that particular book with any other. She gave me Naz. Naz is my ultimate favourite book hero ever. He made me discover my love for tortured heroes; I could honestly write a whole bloody book about him so I won’t go there because this is about ‘By any other name’ and Genna and Matty.
The story line= flawless! I love a good Mafia book with an Italian theme and let me just say this particular author does those kinda stories the best. I mean Romeo and Juliet with a Mafia twist? Yes Please. The bond Matty and Genna developed was absolutely adorable. It overpowered the hatred they were taught to feel for each other. They grew and learnt that it’s really not the family name that defines the other person but rather the compassion and mercy they experience from each other. For a long long time this tension between the two families was brewing and one event is all it would take for hell to break loose again. Destruction is bound to happen with that kind of hatred and lust for power. This story always keeps you on the edge!
Apart from all the killing and crime life, it was kind of nice to witness so much importance being placed on family and loyalty. I mean in this day and age which family cares so much for each other? No one, even though they all were head deep in this life of crime I still respected how they all watched out for each other.
I usually hate insta love and it can make or break a story for me. I’ve never believed in it, think it fat fetched from reality and away from any real emotion but honestly sometimes a well written fairy tale can pull it off, such as this one. Two people can happen to genuinely fall for each other but what made it okay was that our wasn’t overly dramatic and I think that’s the best way I can put it. I guess they both found in each other something they needed and they saw it soon enough but it genuinely was believable. I’d never thought I’d find insta love believable so big moment here for me!
Ahh and that cliff hanger had me like WHAT IS GOING ON?! I majorly need to know what’s going to happen next, I need to continue reading this story and dwell in to the lives of the characters in this this book. Their life is one big ball of pain and wreckage. But I sense changes in the future.
So obviously I think everyone should read this book. like seriously just read all of this authors books if you haven’t yet. I loved Romeo and Juliet (it has all the ideas I hate but it’s still a classic!) and I just loved this too. The clichés didn’t seem to faze me which honestly is saying a lot, this book can pull it off well!
