Ricochet by Keri Lake

Front Cover

My Rating: 4 stars out of 5

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Ricochet is one of those books that I’ve heard many fantastic things about from other readers for a long time and I just knew I had to read it one day. And I finally got to! Obviously the expectations were high from the beginning because I of all its praise. It was as good as I hoped it would be.

I don’t get to read many books with the main story revolving more around the male character than the female. It’s always nice to read something different once in a while. I love me some uniqueness in a story. The fact that the book was more to do with the story of Nick made it something more interesting from the very first page. It brings something new to the romance genre and I couldn’t be more thankful to the author for that. We do of course still get viewpoints from our female lead; Aubree. She has her own tale to tell but the focus is more on Nick’s side of the story.

This tale was both beautiful and tragic at the same time. There were parts which made me want to curl up in a ball and cry for the atrocities that these characters suffered and then other things which just showcased the beauty of each character. There are a lot of dark places this book visits, it contains real suffering and it break your heart. How cruel can some people be!? Yes this does happen in real life. And I really truly feel that Nick’s anger and thirst for revenge was warranted.

The one issue I had is probably more to do with my personal preference. I was very unsure about their sexual tension when I thought they should be progressing more through emotional connection. Just to me the story called for a more deeper connection with the characters which shouldn’t really have started off as physical attraction. Because I don’t think you can find someone attractive if you blame them for your current situation. Anyhow, it wasn’t something I dwelled on much because it didn’t really effect my enjoyability towards the story.

This story definitely moved me. I came to love both Aubree and Nick. They are the sort of characters who are hard to forget. They take up there own little spaces in your book loving heart! It’s difficult not to get lost in Nick’s world which consists of revenge and pain. The author has delivered it in such an incredible way which has you completely lost in the storyline. I cannot imagine the effort it must have took to write something so intense. I am in awe! I can’t describe in enough words how moving this book is. It’s an experience to be had in itself.
