This book proved to be a little different than what I’m used to. And not in a bad way at all. I like to think I’m all grown to spend time divulging in fairy tales but I guess this book changed my mind a little. I did indulge. And badly at that too.

The writing in this book was fantastic. Believe me this author can create such wonderful feelings with wonderful words. It does have a whole fairytale like feel to it as I mentioned before and I think it was the fantastic writing which made me really enjoy it. Because I don’t think just anyone could pull this storyline off. That takes talent. So I fell in to this story straight away and enjoyed every little bit of it.

Lena is a woman who comes from a really simple but difficult background. One in which her own father sells her. And destiny makes her land on Guy’s doorstep. Mysterious Guy who likes to keep his face hidden in a mask, fear of any one seeing him, because as the title suggests, he is a little disfigured. And Lena is condemned to do as he pleases, to live out the rest of her life pleasing him, because that is why she was brought after all. But of course, beauty isn’t only skin deep and glimpsing at what’s underneath can change things.

The scenes were all fantastically done. Certain parts drawing me in even more. I liked Lena’s curious nature, her will to explore her surroundings. How she goes about finding the history of the castle she now lives in to pass her time. I think that was a great little addition to the story. Like I said, every scene was laid out fantastically in my opinion.

The only issue I may have had was that the ending may have been a little rushed. With a story as fabulous as this, as a reader I was looking for more out of the ending. I loved the ending but it came to quickly in my opinion. I feel it’s an ending which should have taken some time to come through and really, it was the only issue I had.

Overall, my first Georgia Le Carre book was a success. I completely fell for this fairytale-ish, beautiful story. I completely lost myself in the character’s tragedies and I enjoyed spending my time reading it. I look forward to reading more of her works.

I was his. I was meant to be his. From the very day that I was born. It sounded like a fable to my rational mind. But it was the truth. My Truth.
