Like heartbeats and sunsets.

Happy endings and old movies.

This was what Yoss and I were made of.

This was such a beautiful yet heartbreaking story. Possibly one of the most beautiful things I have read. There was emotion at each chapter, it was intense, it was real. We are all so ungrateful for the simplest of things such as basic necessities we take for granted whereas other people are unable to even think about having any sorts of dreams when everyday is a struggle to survive. If you read anything this year, make sure this book is one of them.

Fairytales are all good and well, but every once in a while I like to read things which hold a lot of meaning. I’m so glad the author brought this story out for us in this community. Everything cannot be rainbows and unicorns! What about the stories of those who go through things such as hunger and homelessness?

The bond you create with someone when you are at your lowest I think could be one stronger than all. Both of you are leaning on one another for support. Imi and Yoss are vulnerable like that, Imi finds her home in him, in a world she isn’t used to at all on the streets, she looks to Yoss for survival. He takes care of her in more ways than one. Where Yoss has nowhere he could go as a reason he is on the streets, Imi has a home, even if her mother may be a little heartless.

I felt the worst for Yoss. He was such a good man and deserved more than the world could offer him. I hate how he suffered for all those years when he could be having a good life. I have tears in my eyes as I type this now, I just feel so strongly about it! Real life can be cruel sometimes, as much as I hate it I loved reading about it. The friendship between the two is intense and completely understandable why it was so unforgettable for them both.

I like how Imi never gives up on Yoss. I feel that’s a lesson all on its own. How many times do we fight for others these days? Even though he gave her the cold shoulder, she never gave up on him. It was hard but honestly, it shouldn’t be any other way.

The author did a fantastic job of bringing to the life the horrible circumstances of reality. Yet she wrote a beautiful tale, full of emotion and angst. It is a story I will never forget, I hope there is an extended epilogue though, that’s the only thing missing.
