Leylah Attar never ceases to amaze me.
I loved this story for so many reasons. It was unique, exploring a woman’s life who is so used to surviving and not living, doing what is expected of her, living for everyone but herself. Shayda is a heroine you cannot help but be intrigued by. Her story is one which is similar and relevant to possibly a lot of women in real life, hence why it people would relate to it more and enjoy it.
I hardly get to read about a woman from a particular background and I found that quite awesome, how we get to learn more about different lifestyles the stories that we read. Shayda’s married but not necessarily in love. Her husband is a good man but it takes more than just being good to have a real relationship. She meets Troy, who threatens to rock her simple world. He comes in and wrecks up a storm, makes her question everything she thought she knew, helping her enjoy life more and to just let go of her worries and breathe a little. Their relationship wasn’t wrong in my eyes.
This is more than just a love story. In my opinion it was also about embracing who you are, letting go and taking chances. It’s never too late, and Shayda proves it! I think the timeline this story goes through really helped me to step in to her shoes and take the journey with her. Normally I’m not such a big fan of going back in time but I guess this was relevant to the story which is why I actually liked it here.
This book just transforms you into another world. I loved being back in Toronto and taking a trip back in time. It was as if I was right there which made it all the more enjoyable. It difficult not to love the characters, Troy and Shayda are both very memorable, and theirs is a story which will stay with you for a while after you finish. The writing, story, drama, everything is flawless in my opinion and I would definitely recommend this to people.
Because it’s all changing. My favorite color used to be yellow. And now it’s blue- all the different shades of it in his eyes.
