My Rating: 4 stars out of 5
Genre: Contemporary Romance, New Adult
I did a mini kindle book haul the other day and I happened to buy this book. The blurb seemed appealing and well, since I’ve heard a lot about Tijan but never actually read her, it was about time I did. I miss reading American college romances!
Tijan is brilliant. She wrote a very captivating story about an anti-stepbrother which stands out so well from all the other stepbrother stories out there. Because in this situation, the stepbrother is definitely not the one. I do about these stepbrother kind of stories mostly but a book which stands out from the crowd always calls out to me.
Summer is an interesting girl. She’s really random ad awkward but I love it. She’s just starting college, one that her stepbrother goes to, in hopes that they will start their own romance. But no such luck. There’s a lot of drama where her stepbrother, Kevin, is involved. But she does come out of her shell and she meets a group of friends which she enjoys being a part of. So not all a bad experience. And of course, she meets Caden, who she develops a great friendship with.
Not going to lie, Summer did kind of bug me at time because she comes off as a little selfish. Her friends are going through something? Who cares she’s got her mind on her own problems she’s hardly present. Her stepmother asks her for a favour as she is worried about Kevin and what does she do. Put her mind to Caden. Where did the hoes before bro’s code go? Not good. I don’t know, I might be missing something as to why it’s ok for her to ignore anyone for her feelings about a guy.
Overall, I did really enjoy this book. I will definitely be reading more of Tijan in the future! I hope there are stories on Caden’s brothers. That is something I am down with.
