This series is becoming addictive for me. I am so invested in the characters!
Book two follows in particular, Ronan’s path. He has a secret he has been hiding from everyone which is finally out in the open for his close friends to know about. But he is being hunted too. With an ability to bring to life dream objects, people are going to want him.
There are lots of things going on actually, apart from just Ronan’s issues, which makes the book even more interesting. Adam is also beginning to lose his shit for whatever sacrifice he made at the end of the last book. Anger is over taking him and he can’t seem to understand Gansey at all. Poor Gansey! He tries everything, does everything for his friends but somehow he is still misunderstood. I was so scared thinking we were going to lose Adam. I just wanted him to open his eyes to the people around him and get better!
There is a lot of dry, witty humour in this book. It doesn’t try to be funny but it still is. The conversations especially! Oh man. I love them between Maura and Blue. Those two are like the ultimate mother and daughter team. Both strong, determined and will never take shit from anyone.
We also get to meet a ‘Gray Man’. Aka a hit man. He is one of the people hunting for Ronan, without actually knowing who or what it is he is hunting. I really liked him though. It brought a nice twist to the story and he actually wasn’t all that bad. I think he might actually be good for the crew in the grand scheme of things.
And FINALLY, we see a slight development in the romance between Blue and Gansey. A very little amount. They are beginning to notice each other. And I lived for the scene between them at one point in the book. An almost kiss! *squeal* I don’t care, it gave me life! Here’s to actual action in the next book though! Let’s just hope Gansey doesn’t die.
Overall, this is a series I am really enjoying. It has all the elements that make an excellent story. It is clear the author is extremely talented! A great writer with an incredible imagination. I cannot wait to discover more of this story.
Kissing’s a lot like laughing. If the joke’s funny, it doesn’t matter how long it’s been since you last heard one.
