Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: None
My Rating:

This was such an amazing surprise. Lorenzo was a side character introduced in the third book of Monster in his eyes (incase you didn’t know, which could only happen if you haven’t read those books. And if you haven’t then why the fuck haven’t you?). He was so… loud. And wild. And just all around crazy.

J.M. Darhower just has this way of storytelling which grips you and makes it impossible for you not to love every second of it. And I am not just saying that because she is my favourite contemporary author and I am biased. But it is impossible not to fall in love with her characters and their journey. I dare you to try otherwise.

Moving on to Morgan. She was a FAB main character. I love sassy main characters and she was pretty much full of it. She’s strong willed, determined to fight and she isn’t much scared of Lorenzo. Which probably makes sense since she finds herself ending up in his company. We don’t get her backstory until much later and it is probably something I never saw coming.

”You have to be careful who you give pieces of yourself to, because even a little bit here and there adds up to a hell of a lot eventually, and It’s not worth it, losing yourself to them, giving yourself to people who don’t give a fuck about you. You keep pouring yourself into other people and you’ll just wind up empty.”

Even with a ‘heavy’ theme to the book, it is actually really fun and entertaining. Lorenzo as much as he is a Menace, his mind is even funnier. I loved his method of storytelling and he makes you sometimes think, ‘what the fuck are you on Lorenzo?’ He’s not a good guy, far from it, but he still has good in him. So don’t judge me for being a little in love with him.

I’m not in the mood.”
“When are you ever in the mood?” he asks.
“every other Friday and twice on Saturday.”
“it’s Saturday,” he points out.
“Yeah, well, try again later,” I say. “I’m not in the mood right now.”

Here’s another sassy little narration quote from Lorenzo.

Truthfully, I’m not sure at all, but I’d never let anyone know that, not even Seven. And before you say shit, I’m well aware that I just told you, but you don’t count so stop trying to inject yourself into the damn story. This is an important moment.

This isn’t a proper love story, not in my opinion anyway. It is more character development based which is a nice change. I would hate it if Lorenzo became all lovey-dovey actually, because that is not his style and it would completely ruin who he is.

If you love Mafia books, alpha males, strong heroines and something a little different, this book is for you. Read it.

Mind your own business and you’ll live hundred years. Problem is, you know, a hundred years is a long time. Do I really want to live that long?
